Metacognition and Self-Regulated Learning.jpg

This course explores how educators can explicitly develop pupils’ metacognitive and self-regulated learning skills. Participants will learn what metacognition is, why it matters for learning, and how teachers can make thinking processes visible. The course introduces practical ways to model thinking, helping pupils understand how successful learners plan, monitor and evaluate their learning.

You will also explore strategies to promote metacognitive dialogue and encourage pupils to reflect on their learning choices. The course highlights how appropriate challenge supports independence and resilience and provides practical approaches for teaching pupils how to organise, manage and take greater responsibility for their own learning.

You will learn what metacognition is, why it plays such an important role in learning, and how teachers can make thinking processes visible in the classroom. The course focuses on practical approaches that help pupils understand how successful learners plan, monitor and evaluate their work.

Throughout this course you will explore strategies for modelling thinking, using clear explanations and structured guidance to show pupils how to approach tasks effectively. The course also introduces ways to promote metacognitive dialogue in lessons, helping pupils reflect on the decisions they make and the strategies they use when learning.
