This comprehensive Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness course provides school staff with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to recognise, respond to and help prevent allergic reactions in educational settings. Learners will develop an understanding of allergies and anaphylaxis, identify common allergens and warning signs, and learn how to respond quickly and effectively during an allergic emergency, including the safe use of adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) and appropriate emergency procedures.

The course also explores proactive allergy management, helping staff reduce risks through effective planning, communication and day-to-day practice. It covers strategies for creating safer learning environments, supporting pupils with allergies, working collaboratively with parents and healthcare professionals, and promoting an inclusive culture that reduces anxiety, stigma and allergy-related bullying. Learners will gain a clear understanding of their role in protecting pupils and ensuring that appropriate support is available whenever it is needed.

Importantly, this course has been designed to support schools in meeting the requirements of the Department for Education's guidance surrounding Benedict's Law and the statutory guidance on supporting pupils with medical conditions. It provides the annual allergy awareness and emergency response training expected for all school staff in England, helping schools strengthen safeguarding arrangements, fulfil their legal responsibilities, and ensure every member of staff is prepared to respond confidently and effectively in the event of an allergic emergency.
